Antonio Rudiger’s agent has held talks with Barcelona over a potential free transfer move to the Camp Nou this summer.
Rudiger is out of contract at the end of the season and Chelsea are currently unable to negotiate new terms with the defender, as a result of the sanctions placed on owner Roman Abramovich.
Europe’s leading clubs are monitoring the centre-back’s situation with Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain among the sides said to be interested.
Sky Sports are reporting that Rudiger’s representative, Sahr Senesie, met with Barca sporting director Mateu Alemany and deputy Jordi Cruyff in Spain to discuss a potential move.
Rudiger’s availability on a free transfer suits Barcelona’s current financial situation and the Catalans are prepared to ‘go full throttle’ in their pursuit of the Germany international. Barcelona – who have impressed in recent weeks under Xavi – have also been linked with Chelsea teammates Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta.
Chelsea have not ruled out a new deal for Rudiger despite the failure to find a a breakthrough in recent months, once the club’s ownership situation is clarified and a takeover has been completed.
Juventus have also been linked with Rudiger in recent months, whilst two Premier League clubs are said to be monitoring his situation at Stamford Bridge.
The 29-year-old has made 191 appearances since signing for Chelsea from Roma, winning the Champions League, FA Cup and Europa League among his honours in west London.
