Guardiola admits beating Liverpool will be ‘massive’ for Man City’s title aspirations

Pep Guardiola admits beating Liverpool will be ‘massive’ for Manchester City’s title aspirations as the Premier League’s top two meet this weekend.

The league leaders welcome second-placed Liverpool to the Etihad on Sunday, as the the two title rivals meet in a huge clash.

Just one point separates the sides with Liverpool having closed the gap with a ten-game winning run in the Premier League, though City have the chance to move four points clear with a win on home soil.

The clash has been billed as a title decider and Guardiola admits a win for his side would be a ‘massive important three points’ in their bid to defend the Premier League title.

“It will be a massive important three points but there still remains seven games, 21 points and a lot of things involving the Champions League and the FA Cup,” he said at his pre-match press conference.

“We know how important it is.”

Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for his counterpart ahead of this weekend’s meeting, calling Guardiola the best coach in world football.

Guardiola was pleased with the compliment from the Liverpool manager but dismissed claims he is the finest coach in the game.

“I didn’t become a manager to be the best. I’m not.

“Thank you so much, but I’m not. I’d like to say I’m the best, but I’m not.”
