Manchester United and Tottenham are set to compete for the signature of Sam Johnstone this summer as the West Brom goalkeeper prepares to become a free agent.
Johnstone is out of contract in the summer and has turned down a new deal at The Hawthorns, with the three-cap England international keen on a return to the Premier League.
Sky Sports are reporting that United and Spurs are among the top-flight sides keen on a deal for the 29-year-old, who was included in the England squad for Euro 2020 last summer after impressing despite West Brom’s relegation from the Premier League last season.
The goalkeeper came through the academy ranks at United but failed to make a first-team appearance, earning experience on several loan spells before a permanent exit in 2018.
United are considering a move for Johnstone with Dean Henderson keen on an exit from Old Trafford, with the shot-stopper viewed as ideal competition and cover for David de Gea.
Henderson has failed to make a Premier League appearance this season and wants to leave the Red Devils as he looks to improve his own international ambitions.
Spurs are also looking to improve their goalkeeping options ahead of next season with Pierluigi Gollini having failed to challenge Hugo Lloris’ status as number one since arriving on loan from Atalanta last summer.
Southampton, West Ham and Rangers have all also been linked with Johnstone, who will have several sides interested in his services as he prepares to leave West Brom as a free agent.
