Allan Saint-Maximin is ‘expected to be sold’ this summer with Newcastle set to invest any fee in a rebuild of the side.
Saint-Maximin has become a huge fans’ favourite since signing for the Magpies from Nice in 2019, with the winger’s flamboyant style and extroverted personality having won admirers at St James’ Park.
However, the Mail are reporting that Newcastle are now expected to cash in on the Frenchman during the summer transfer window and reinvest the funds into a rebuild of the squad.
Saint-Maximin’s sale could bring in a significant fee, despite the winger’s struggle for consistent end product with the 25-year-old having scored just 12 goals in 86 appearances for Newcastle.
Eddie Howe is understood to have lined up several transfer targets as potential replacements, with Nottingham Forest winger Brennan Johnson and Bayer Leverkusen star Moussa Diaby among the names being linked with a move to the North East.
Brighton’s Leandro Trossard is also a potential target, whilst Newcastle are said to be be keen on the Belgian’s teammate Yves Bissouma as the Magpies look to bolster their central midfield options.
Newcastle are expected to appoint Dan Ashworth as their sporting director, though could be forced to wait until November to finalise the deal after the 51-year-old was placed on gardening leave by Brighton after he handed in his resignation back in February.
