Conte hopeful of being on the bench for Spurs weekend clash after testing positive for Covid

Antonio Conte is hopeful of being on the bench for Tottenham’s clash with Brighton this weekend after testing positive for Covid-19.

Spurs travel to face the Seagulls on Saturday lunchtime looking to continue their fine form, with the North Londoners having climbed into fourth in the Premier League after a run of four straight wins.

The club’s preparations have been disrupted after Conte tested positive for Covid-19 this week, though the Italian has been appropriately distancing from the squad and is expecting to be able to return to the bench this weekend.

“I attended the training session but from distance. I had my staff, they did a really good job after the game against Aston Villa and the day after, I started to feel a bit of mild symptoms, a bit of pain in my throat. I asked to have a Covid test and it was positive, but now I’m fine,” Conte said at his pre-match press conference.

“I’m well and for sure this was a strange week for me and the players, they are used to have sessions with me but it’s OK because my staff are doing a great job.

“I think on Saturday, I will be able to be with my players on the bench given the length of time from my Covid test, I think I can stay on the bench on Saturday.”

Tottenham are fourth in the Premier League at present, three points ahead of Arsenal having played a game more than their North London rivals.
