Jurgen Klopp is hoping for ‘common sense’ in the TV scheduling after Liverpool reached the Champions League semi-finals.
Liverpool progressed to the last four in Europe after a 6-4 aggregate win over Benfica and will meet Villarreal over two legs for a place in the final.
In between the two fixtures with the Spanish side is a lunchtime kick-off in the Premier League at Newcastle and Klopp is hoping that ‘common sense’ from broadcasters will see the clash at St James’ Park moved.
“That’s a normal problem. We are in two semi-finals, so that’s our problem,” Klopp told reporters at his pre-match press conference ahead of Liverpool’s FA Cup semi-final with Manchester City this weekend. “But, the kick-off is a massive difference, because each hour counts with recovery.
“I don’t understand it. People want to see a football game, but I don’t think a team should have an advantage.
“I really think the league and the broadcaster should try at least to help. And we will see.
“Common sense would say it is right to move the game.”
Liverpool will be looking to reach a third Champions League final in five seasons against Villarreal, who eliminated Bayern Munich 2-1 on aggregate in the quarter-finals.
