Ten Hag tells Man Utd that Ronaldo is ‘not suited’ to his style of play

Erik ten Hag has reportedly told Manchester United that Cristiano Ronaldo is ‘not suited’ to his style of play and has given the forward the green light to leave this summer.

Ten Hag has agreed a deal in principle to become the Red Devils’ next permanent manager and an official announcement is expected following Ajax’s Dutch Cup final with PSV Eindhoven on Sunday.

The 52-year-old will move to the Premier League in the summer and has reportedly informed his new side that Ronaldo does not feature in his future plans.

The Star are reporting that Ten Hag has told the club that Ronaldo does not suit his preferred playing style and the five-time Ballon d’Or winner should be allowed to leave this summer.

Ronaldo returned to the Red Devils from Juventus last summer and is the club’s leading goalscorer this season with 18 goals in all competitions, but his second spell has proven disappointing as the side have failed to challenge for silverware.

United will end the season without a major trophy for the fifth consecutive campaign and face a fight to secure Champions League qualification for next season.

Ronaldo has the option to extend his contract by a further season, though has been considering an exit after becoming disillusioned in recent months.

Ten Hag has been linked with several forwards as potential replacements, with both Benfica’s Darwin Nunez and RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku among those named as transfer targets for the incoming manager.
