Antonio Conte has labelled speculation linking him to a move to Paris Saint-Germain as ‘fake news’.
The Italian has this week been linked with potentially leaving Tottenham a little over six months after his arrival, with reports suggesting he would be keen on taking over at PSG should Mauricio Pochettino be sacked.
The former Spurs boss claimed his first piece of major silverware as a manager last week as PSG reclaimed the Ligue 1 title, though it has been reported that he is edging closer to being sacked, the Argentine unpopular among sections of the French side’s support, with the club’s last-16 Champions League exit having not helped his cause.
However, speaking ahead of Spurs’ home clash with Leicester at the weekend, Antonio Conte was asked if he had spoken with his players about the speculation regarding his future, speculation that the 52-year-old dismissed as ‘fake news’.
“In this situation, those who work in football – players or managers – know very well at this point in the season a lot of fake news starts to go out,” he told the media.
“We are working very hard, my players know very well that we are really focused, we are speaking a lot about this opportunity. We have to live this situation with passion, enthusiasm and joy.
“We deserve to fight for a place in the Champions League. To stay there we need to enjoy this situation. Our fans have to stay close to us in every moment, in every negative moment.”
Spurs have picked up just one point from their last two games to surrender their advantage in the race for the top four to North London rivals Arsenal, who are now two points ahead of Conte’s side with five games to play.
