Arsenal have reportedly renewed their interest in signing Lautaro Martinez from Inter Milan, while Manchester United have also made a move to sign the striker.
Arsenal – along with Spurs – were interested in signing Martinez last summer, though the Gunners were unable to meet Inter Milan’s £60 million valuation of the striker.
Spurs‘ interest came on the back of Harry Kane’s desire to quit the club, and while they did meet Inter’s asking price, the Italian side decided against selling the Argentine having already sanctioned the £97.5m sale of Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea.
According to the Times, Arsenal will renew their interest as they look to sign two strikers this summer, the club having already allowed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to leave for Barcelona, while Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are out of contract in the summer and look set to leave for free.
Martinez has scored 54 goals in 132 league matches and seven in the Champions League for Inter, since moving from Racing Club four years ago, while Arsenal have also been linked with Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus and Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Spurs are also said to remain interested in Martinez with Antonio Conte having worked with the 24-year-old during his time with Inter Milan, though that interest could be shelved with Kane ‘increasingly likely’ to stay at the North London club.
Meanwhile, the report says that Manchester United have joined the race for his signature, and while Inter Milan are believed to have signalled their willingness to sell the player for between £60-70million, United are said to have made a ‘part-swap’ offer that would see Anthony Martial move to the San Siro.
The Frenchman was once hailed as the next Thierry Henry following his move to United in 2015, though has rarely looked like fulfiling his potential. Having scored a career-high of 23 goals in 2019/20, the 26-year-old’s form has since nosedived and has subsequently spent the second half of the current campaign on an underwhelming loan spell at Sevilla.
