Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard is relishing the ‘challenge’ of facing Liverpool on Tuesday evening and has hailed his former club as ‘arguably the best team in the world right now’.
Villa take on Liverpool tomorrow evening looking to continue their push for a top 10 finish, with Gerrard’s side have earned an impressive 3-1 win at Burnley last weekend.
Liverpool will arrive at Villa Park looking to keep alive their Premier League title ambitions and Gerrard is well aware of the threat posed by the club he captained for more than a decade during a playing career at Anfield.
Gerrard has hailed the Reds as ‘arguably the best team in the world right now’ but believes Villa are capable of find ways to ‘hurt’ the title-chasing visitors.
“They’re a world-class team. Arguably, the best team in the world right now. We’re well aware of the challenge,” Gerrard said at his pre-match press conference.
“I’ve spoken many times about how I respect the coach and the coaching staff there. You either fear that or you put your shoulders back and try and take it on and find situations where you can have your moments in the game.
“Every team on the planet, historically or now, there’s always areas or situations that happen in a game where you can hurt them.
“We’re well aware of the size of the challenge tomorrow, but it’s exciting and I’m looking forward to it. Big games of football are what it’s all about.”
