Pogba rejects ‘flattering proposal’ from Manchester City

Paul Pogba has reportedly turned down a ‘flattering proposal’ from Manchester City with the midfielder set to leave Manchester United this summer.

Pogba is understood to have emerged as a genuine transfer target for the Premier League champions this summer as he approaches the end of his contract with the club’s cross-town rivals.

City are interested in signing a midfielder with Fernandinho set to leave at the end of the season and The Athletic are reporting that the club submitted a ‘flattering proposal’ to Pogba.

The 29-year-old is said to have given serious consideration to the move despite the controversy that crossing the Manchester divide would create, but has instead decided to turn down the offer in favour of a package from a rival suitor.

Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and former side Juventus are believed to be the frontrunners to sign the France international, whose largely unhappy six-season spell at Old Trafford is set to come to an end this summer.

United signed Pogba in an £89m then-world record move from Juventus in 2016, but he has failed to win major silverware since a League Cup and Europa League double in his debut campaign at Old Trafford.

Pogba – currently sidelined with a calf injury that has curtailed his campaign – has made 20 appearances in the Premier League this season, scoring once and providing nine assists.
