Manchester City have announced that the club have reached an ‘agreement in principle’ to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer.
City have beaten off competition from Europe’s elite clubs to secure the signing of the forward, with a club statement confirming the deal subject to the club finalising terms with Haaland.
Haaland is set to join up with the Premier League champions next season after City activated the release clause in his contract at Dortmund and reports have revealed the parties are in talks over a five-year contract.
The deal will represent a significant coup for Pep Guardiola, who has agreed a deal for one of the most coveted young talents in world football.
Haaland has enjoyed a stunning emergence in recent campaigns, bursting onto the scene with Red Bull Salzburg before scoring at a prolific rate in the Bundesliga.
The 21-year-old has scored 85 goals in just 88 appearances across all competitions for Dortmund, becoming the fastest footballer in history to reach 20 Champions League goals (14 games) and the youngest to finish a single season as the competition’s leading scorer in 2020/21.
City have continued to perform this season without an orthodox centre-forward but now look set to add one of Europe’s most exciting to their ranks, with Haaland having also compiled a record of 15 goals from just 17 caps for Norway at international level.
