Jesse Marsch has backed Erling Haaland to thrive in the Premier League as the forward closes in on a summer move to Manchester City.
City are expected to announce the signing of Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this week, with the forward understood to have agreed personal terms and passed a medical ahead of his €75m switch to the Premier League champions.
Leeds manager Marsch coached the Norwegian during his time at Red Bull Salzburg, a period which saw Haaland burst onto the scene before moving on to the Bundesliga.
The 21-year-old has since scored 85 goals in 88 appearances for Dortmund and Marsch insists the forward ‘is destined to be one of the best players in the world’.
“Erling Haaland is destined to be one of the best players in the world,” Marsch said at his pre-match press conference ahead of Leeds’ clash with Chelsea on Wednesday.
“It’s his quality but also his talent. I wish he was coming back home here to Leeds, this is his hometown and birth place but I understand the decision for him to go to Manchester City.
“It’ll be interesting, he’s an explosive player in transition and Man City often play a lot in possession. He can play any style of play but I certainly believe it makes Man City – one of, if not the best team in the world – even better.
“Credit to them for getting that done and I always wish the best for Erling, he’s an incredible human being.”
