Barcelona are ‘willing to accept €60m’ for Frenkie de Jong as speculation continues to link the midfielder with a move to Manchester United.
De Jong is considered a saleable asset this summer as Barcelona look to raise transfer funds, with the arrival of Erik ten Hag at Manchester United having increased speculation over a Premier League move.
The 25-year-old starred under the guidance of Ten Hag at Ajax, forming part of the team that reached the 2018/19 Champions League semi-finals before his €75m move to the Camp Nou.
Goal are reporting that Barcelona would be ‘willing to accept €60 million’ for the Netherlands international this summer, with only six players – Ansu Fati, Pedri, Gavi, Ferran Torres, Ronald Araujo and Eric Garcia – considered untouchable as the Catalans continue their rebuild.
De Jong has struggled for consistency at the Camp Nou and it appears Barcelona are pushing his availability in a bid to raise capital to ease their financial woes, with the Spanish version of the Goal website saying that there could even be negotiations if they were to receive a bid between €50m (£42m) and €60m (£51.1m).
United are interested in strengthening their midfield this summer and the signing of De Jong, a player familiar with Ten Hag’s methods, could be a shrewd addition to their ranks.
It has, however, been reported that De Jong is not desperate to leave the La Liga giants, with United facing an ‘uphill battle’ to convince him to move to Old Trafford, particularly given their lack of Champions League football next season.
The Red Devils are in need of reinforcements with several senior players set to depart this summer, including midfield options Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Jesse Lingard.
