Jurgen Klopp has provided an injury update on Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk ahead of Liverpool’s trip to face Southampton.
Liverpool travel to face Southampton on Tuesday evening needing to win to keep alive their hopes of overhauling Manchester City in the Premier League title race, with the Reds four points behind the league leaders ahead of their game in hand at St Mary’s.
A win for Liverpool will move the club within a point of City and take the title race to the final day of the season on Sunday, though Klopp has a number of fitness problems heading into the clash.
Salah and Van Dijk were both withdrawn with injuries during Saturday’s FA Cup final win over Chelsea, whilst Fabinho is also set to be absent after limping off at Aston Villa last week.
Klopp has provided an update on Salah and Van Dijk and has confirmed they will not feature at Southampton, but is confident both players will be fit to play a part against Wolves on Sunday and for the upcoming Champions League final with Real Madrid on May 28.
“Will they be involved tomorrow? No. Virg definitely not. But that was pretty much clear before the game,” he told the media at his pre-match press conference.
“They are both OK, so the target would be that they could both be involved on the weekend, properly involved, from the bench [for] a couple minutes or start.
“I don’t know we will see [about] that, because that would be perfect for the game.
“But if not then we will take each day afterwards. There is no doubt about the [Champions League] final, pretty realistic about the Wolves game. But tomorrow, rather not.”
