Klopp says Premier League title hopes are ‘not likely, but possible’

Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes are ‘not likely, but possible’ ahead of the season’s final day.

Liverpool moved within a point of Manchester City after beating Southampton on Tuesday evening, with a rotated side coming from behind to earn a 2-1 win at St Mary’s.

Klopp made nine changes from the team that started the FA Cup final win over Chelsea on Saturday and the Reds fell behind after Nathan Redmond’s 13th-minute opener for the Saints.

Liverpool recovered from that setback, however, with goals from Takumi Minamino and Joel Matip securing a win that takes the title race to the final day.

Klopp’s team need to win against Wolves to have any chance overhauling City, who host Aston Villa at the Etihad on Sunday.

The German is expecting City to come through that test on home soil, but says it is still ‘possible’ that his team are crowned champions this weekend.

“If we become champions it would be deserved as well but we need to win,” Klopp said after the win over Southampton. “If I was in the other situation, then I don’t feel like I am champion already, that is how it is.

“You are thinking that, of course, City will win that game. But it is football. It is possible, not likely but possible. That is enough. Villa wants to win.”
