Man City to target £30m rated Brighton defender

Manchester City are considering a move to sign Marc Cucurella this summer with the Brighton left-back valued in the region of £30m.

Pep Guardiola is keen to strengthen his squad this summer with the signing of the Spaniard, who has starred during an impressive first Premier League season with the Seagulls.

The 23-year-old arrived at Brighton from Getafe in a £15m deal last summer and has enjoyed an excellent campaign for Graham Potter’s side, with the defender earning the club’s Players’ Player of the Season and Player of the Season awards.

The Mail are reporting that Guardiola wants Cucurella to provide competition and balance at left-back, having used Joao Cancelo – a more natural right-back – on the left side of his defence for much of the campaign.

Cucurella has won more possession on more occasions than any other full-back in the Premier League this season and has shown his versatility by impressing both at wing-back and on the left of a back three for Brighton.

The full-back came through the academy system at Barcelona and has earned one senior cap for Spain. He also formed part of the nation’s squad that won silver at the delayed Olympic Games in 2021.
