Harry Kane is set for contract talks at Tottenham after being left ‘excited’ by the club’s progress under Antonio Conte.
Kane turned down a new deal last summer as he looked to force an exit from North London, with the England captain having been keen to sign for Manchester City amid interest from the Premier League champions.
The 28-year-old is now understood to be open to a new contract at Spurs, after being impressed with the club’s turnaround under Conte.
Conte’s arrival in November galvanised the squad with only Manchester City and Liverpool taking more points across the second half of the campaign as Spurs secured a top four finish and Champions League qualification.
City’s signing of Erling Haaland also means there will be no renewed transfer attempt from the Etihad and the Evening Standard are reporting that Kane is now set for talks over a new deal.
Kane is awaiting for the outcome of talks between Conte and the club’s board with the Italian seeking assurances over Spurs’ ambitions, though is expected to receive backing this summer with a £150m injection from owners ENIC set to be invested into the squad.
Should Kane sign a new long-term deal, it will open up the prospect of the forward remaining at Spurs for the rest of his career. He is currently second in the club’s all-time leading scorers list on 248 goals, but will be confident of moving past Jimmy Greaves record of 266 next season.
He currently sits in 183 Premier League goals as he sets his sights on chasing down Alan Shearers long-standing all-time record of 260, and is only 25 goals behind second placed Wayne Rooney on that particular list.
