Manchester United have turned down an approach from Tottenham for Marcus Rashford.
The 24-year-old has endured a massively underwhelming season, beginning the campaign on the sidelines after having surgery to fix a long-standing shoulder injury, only to go on to produce the worst goalscoring return of his career to date.
The England international netted just five goals in his 32 appearances for Manchester United in all competitions, his form seeing him slide down the pecking order at Old Trafford and slipping out of the international setup.
Reports earlier this year suggested that Rashford – who has just one year remaining on his current deal – was considering his future at the club.
However, according to the Times, Spurs have seen an approach for the forward ‘rebuffed’ by United, with the North London club looking for a multi-functional forward who can play across the front line, and hoped they could help Rashford rediscover his best form.
The pursuit would also help Spurs meet their homegrown quota.
Spurs have been told, however, that Rashford would ‘like to stay’ at United and ‘try to impress’ new manager, Erik ten Hag.
United have already seen Edinson Cavani leave the club, while Anthony Martial is believed to be surplus to requirements following his underwhelming loan spell at Sevilla, meaning that aside from Rashford, the Red Devils only have Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Anthony Elanga as senior options in attack.
The report adds that United have opened talks over a new contract for Rashford over a new contract this summer, as they hope he can rediscover the form that he showed in previous years, the forward scoring 43 goals between the 2019/20 and 2020/21 campaigns
