De Ligt reveals why he thinks Ten Hag will succeed at Man United

Holland and Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt has tipped new Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag to be a success at Old Trafford.

Ten Hag handed de Ligt the captaincy at Ajax as an 18-year-old and the Juve defender won a league and cup double under the highly-rated 52-year-old coach.

Ten Hag enjoyed spells as the coach of Bayern Munich’s reserves and Utrecht before moving on to Ajax in 2017 where he won three Eredivisie titles in five seasons.

De ligt was a key part of Ten Hag’s brilliant young Ajax side that reached the semi-final of the Champions League in 2018/19 and the 22-year-old reckons it’s the incoming United manager’s attention to detail that makes him such a top coach.

”He is someone who loves his job and he loves to work,” said De Ligt at a press conferrence before Hollland’s nations league clash with Poland tomorrow.

“He’s really into the details. This makes him a really good trainer. He has a lot of qualities (to succeed). We will have to see how he goes.”

De Ligt then revealed that one of the keys to Ten Hag’s success is that he makes the players he works with better – something that has been sadly lacking at Man United over their recent managerial tenures.

“He definitely improves players,” the centre-back said.

”He wants to do everything to make his team play better.”
