Harry Kane is relishing increased competition for the Premier League’s Golden Boot following the arrival of Erling Haaland at Manchester City.
City have confirmed the signing of Haaland on a long-term contract from Borussia Dortmund, with the Noway international arriving as one of world’s football’s most exciting talents after scoring 86 goals in 89 appearances for the Bundesliga side.
The 21-year-old’s prolific record will see him regarded as one of the favourites to finish as the Premier League’s leading scorer next season, whilst Liverpool are also on the verge of bolstering their forward ranks with the signing of Darwin Nunez from Benfica.
The Reds are closing in on the signing of the Uruguay international for a fee which could reach a club record £85m and Kane admits he is motivated by the new challenge of finishing as the Premier League’s leading scorer.
“It’s always been a tough battle to win the golden boot and with those two new signings it’s going to be the case,” Kane said at a pre-match press conference ahead of England’s Nations League clash with Hungary.
“It drives me as a player, I look forward to the challenge.
“Going into any season I have things I want to achieve. I can’t control what other players do but I’ll continue to work hard and improve.”
Kane has won the Premier League’s Golden Boot on three occasions, with only Thierry Henry (4) having won the accolade more. Last season’s honour was shared by Mohamed Salah – who levelled Kane and Alan Shearer on three awards – and Son Heung-Min.
