Man City preparing move for Brighton left-back Cucurella

Manchester City are preparing a move to sign Marc Cucurella from Brighton with the defender having emerged as the club’s top target at left-back.

Cucurella has earned admiring glances from Premier League rivals after an impressive debut season with Brighton, with the Spaniard named as the Seagull’s Player of the Season after a series of strong performances.

Pep Guardiola is now understood to be interested in a move for the 23-year-old as City look to secure the signing of a natural left-footer at left-back.

Cucurella came through the ranks at Barcelona but failed to make a senior appearance for departing for Getafe, who he left to sign for Brighton in a £15.4m deal last summer.

The Guardian are reporting that Brighton will demand a significant increase on that fee before allowing Cucurella to leave and a first bid is expected from City in the coming days.

Cucurella could become the second major name to leave Brighton this summer with Yves Bissouma closing in on a move to Tottenham. The north Londoners have agreed a deal worth £25m for the Mali international, who is entering the final 12 months of his deal at the Amex Stadium.
