Minamino set to leave Liverpool for Monaco

Takumi Minamino is set to leave Liverpool and sign for Monaco after the two clubs agreed a deal worth €18m (£15.5m) for the forward.

Minamino had been expected to leave the Reds this summer after struggling for first-team football, with Japan international having started just two Premier League fixtures in 2021/22.

Sky Sports are reporting that the deal with Monaco will see Liverpool receive an initial fee of €15m (£12.9m) and will include a further €3m (£2.6m) in add ons.

The 27-year-old signed for Liverpool from Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020, having impressed against the Reds in the Champions League.

He has since struggled to command a regular role however, and spent the second half of the 2020/21 campaign on loan at Southampton.

Minamino returned to Liverpool last summer and played a valuable role in the club’s domestic cup successes despite his lack of game-time, finishing as the club’s leading scorer in both the League Cup and FA Cup.

The forward – who had been linked with Wolves, Fulham and Southampton – scored 10 goals in 22 appearances across all competitions last season, just nine of which came from the start.
