Everton are exploring a move to sign Jesse Lingard on a free transfer, following the midfielder’s release at Manchester United.
Lingard is a free agent after leaving United this month and has been linked with several Premier League clubs, including Newcastle and West Ham.
Everton have now emerged as contenders for his signature with The Athletic reporting that the Toffees are exploring a move for the 29-year-old, with Frank Lampard looking at cost-efficient methods of strengthening his squad.
Everton sanctioned the sale of Richarlison to Tottenham on Friday as the club look to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules and are working on a restricted budget this summer.
The Toffees are understood to be close to signing James Tarkowski on a free transfer following his exit from Burnley, whilst the club also retain an interest in Christian Eriksen but face competition from Manchester United and Brentford among others.
Lingard could prove a valuable addition to the squad as the midfielder looks to relaunch his career, having made just two Premier League starts last season.
A move to Everton would allow Lingard to remain in the north west and secure regular first-team football as he looks to regain his place in the England squad.
West Ham are understood to have tabled a contract offer to the midfielder, who impressed during a loan spell at the London Stadium in 2020/21.
