Spurs make ‘enquiry’ over Memphis Depay

Tottenham have made an ‘enquiry’ into the signing of Memphis Depay from Barcelona, with the forward available for a fee in excess of €20m.

The Netherlands international is free to leave Barcelona this summer should the club receive a suitable offer, with the Catalans keen to raise cash to fund their own transfer business.

Barcelona are interested in deals to sign Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha and the arrivals of that duo will increase the competition for places at the Camp Nou.

SPORT are reporting that Spurs have discussed the prospect of signing the 28-year-old, having been in negotiations with Barcelona over a loan deal for Clement Lenglet.

Depay signed for the Spanish side on a free transfer from Lyon last summer and is a valued member of the squad at Barcelona, though is expected to leave for more regular minutes should the club secure their intended transfer targets.

He scored 13 goals in all competitions last season and has also been linked with Sevilla and Juventus, with the Dutchman keen to sign for a club in the Champions League should he depart.

Tottenham have already strengthened their forward line with the signing of Richarlison from Everton, though could further increase the depth their options with a cut-price deal for Depay, who has just one year remaining on his contract at Barcelona.

The forward signed for Manchester United in a £25m deal from PSV Eindhoven in 2015, but struggled to make an impact across 18 months in the Premier League.
