Ronaldo hopes of Man Utd exit ‘fading’

Cristiano Ronaldo’s hopes of leaving Manchester United are ‘fading’ after the club insisted that the forward is not for sale.

Ronaldo wants to leave this summer should a suitable offer arrive, in order to compete for major trophies and in the Champions League next season.

The 37-year-old has not returned for pre-season training this week due to family reasons, an explanation the Red Devils have accepted, and will not fly out to Thailand with the rest of the squad for the club’s pre-season tour on Friday.

The Mail are reporting that Ronaldo will be included in the images of United’s new kit launch on Friday, while the Portugal captain believes it will be difficult to find a new club just a month before the season begins.

Chelsea and Napoli have each expressed an interest and can provide Champions League football, though both clubs will find it difficult to match Ronaldo’s wages at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo returned to the Red Devils from Juventus last summer and was named as the club’s Player of the Season after scoring 24 goals in all competitions.

However, a sixth-place finish for United means Ronaldo will not compete in the Champions League for the first time in two decades should he remain at the club this summer.
