Tottenham have made an opening offer for Memphis Depay but are ‘not willing’ to meet Barcelona’s price tag for the forward.
Depay is free to leave Barcelona this summer following the club’s transfer business, which has seen Ousmane Dembele renew his contract and both Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha arrive to provide competition for places in the final third.
Spurs held initial talks with Barcelona over a deal for the 28-year-old during negotiations for Clement Lenglet’s loan move to north London.
Sport are reporting that Spurs are willing to pay €17m (£14.45m) for Depay, but are unwilling to meet Barcelona’s €20m (17m) valuation for a forward who has less than a year remaining on his current contract.
Depay signed for the Spanish side on a free transfer from Lyon last summer and scored 13 goals in all competitions last season.
He will want to secure regular first-team football ahead of the World Cup in November, where he will be tasked with spearheading the Netherlands’ challenge in Qatar.
However, Depay’s preference is reportedly not a return to the Premier League, having previously endured a difficult spell at Manchester United.
He has also been linked with Sevilla due to Barcelona’s interest in defender Jules Kounde, but is not convinced by a move to the Andalusians.
