Which Premier League Club Has the Best Chance in 2022/23 Champions League?

Two of the last four Champions League competitions have been won by Premier League clubs, while there has been an English side in the final in three of the last five years.

Manchester City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Tottenham have all qualified for the 2022/23 Champions League group stages. Here is a look at who has the best chance of going all the way.

Manchester City

Premier League champions Manchester City have consistently reached the latter stages of the competition over the last few years, but they have been unable to get their hands on the trophy.

The owners of Manchester City hired head coach Pep Guardiola to help them have success in Europe. They will be hoping this season, with the additions they have made to their squad in the summer, that they can fulfil that goal.

Manchester City are the 11/4 favourites in the Champions League odds for next season. The bookmakers feel they are the team to beat.

Liverpool

Liverpool made it all the way through to the final last season but were beaten 1-0 by Real Madrid in Paris. It was the second time in the campaign that Jurgen Klopp’s side experienced disappointment, as they ended the Premier League just one point behind Manchester City in second place.

It remains to be seen how Liverpool will cope without Sadio Mane. The Senegal international has moved to Bayern Munich, which is clearly a big blow. Their former forward has been fantastic for them in Europe over the last few years.

Liverpool will be a team that nobody will want to draw against if they reach the knockout stages next season. Their record, particularly at Anfield, is very good in Europe. They are likely to be strong contenders to reach the final once again.

Chelsea

There have been a lot of changes at Chelsea over the summer. Defenders Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen have joined Real Madrid and Barcelona respectively. It means their defensive line is going to have a new look to it next season.

Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel won the Champions League in his first season at Chelsea, so he knows what it takes to guide a team to the trophy. Their run in the 2021/22 campaign ended in the quarter-finals, as the eventual winner Real Madrid knocked them out.

Chelsea have a strong enough squad to go a long way. However, they may need a bit of luck with the draw in the knockout stages if they are to repeat what they did two years ago.

Tottenham

Tottenham are back in the Champions League after a two-year absence. Since Antonio Conte arrived at the club in the early stages of last season, their results have improved.

The 2019 runners-up will be in pot two ahead of the draw for the group stages. It means they will face one of the highest-ranked clubs in the UEFA rankings. They are the least likely of the four Premier League clubs to win the competition, however, under their Italian boss, they could cause a surprise or two.

This season’s Champions League begins on the 6th of September, while the final is set for the 10th of June 2023.
