Rodgers insists Chelsea target Fofana is ‘not for sale’

Brendan Rodgers has insisted that Wesley Fofana is ‘not for sale’ amid interest in the defender from Chelsea.

Fofana is a transfer target for the west Londoners as Thomas Tuchel looks for defensive reinforcements before the closure of the transfer window, having seen both Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen depart on free transfers.

Leicester are under no pressure to sell Fofana however, and have placed a world-record valuation of between £80m-£85m on the 21-year-old.

The Frenchman is contracted to the Foxes until 2027 and is believed to be happy at the King Power Stadium, with Leicester boss Rodgers having again reiterated that Fofana is not for sale this summer.

“Naturally, he’s a top talent,” Rodgers told BBC Radio Leicester. “He’s not for sale. He still has lots of improvements to make. He’s very happy here, he really enjoys being here.

“Naturally he will attract the interest of other clubs. Our job, in not signing anyone so far, is to at least keep the players we have. I know that’s the intention of the club.”

Despite Rodgers’ public stance a record-breaking offer would be difficult to turn down for Leicester, who are yet to make a signing so far this summer. Rodgers previously insisted that Ben Chilwell was not for sale in 2020, before accepting a £45m offer from Chelsea for the England left-back.
