Manchester United are reportedly interested in Brighton’s Moises Caicedo as the club continue to look for midfield reinforcements.
This summer was expected to be one of huge transition for Manchester United following the appointment of Erik ten Hag and the departure of a number of first team players, though so far, they have overseen an underwhelming transfer window.
The club were expected to heavily strengthen in midfield and attack, but so far their summer business has been restricted to the arrivals of the defensive duo, Lisandro Martinez and Tyrell Malacia, as well as the free transfer of Christian Eriksen.
The Red Devils have seemingly had all their eggs in Frenkie de Jong’s basket, though despite having agreed a fee with Barcelona weeks ago, the Dutchman is still no closer to joining the club.
After what was a promising pre-season campaign, the club have been plunged back into familiar crisis territory following back-to-back embarrassing defeats, losing at home to Brighton on the opening day before being hammered by Brentford last weekend, results which have further heightened the need for reinforcements.
According to Sky Sports, one player who is on the club’s radar is Brighton’s Moises Caicedo, with the 20-year-old having made a good impression following his arrival at the AmEx from Independiente del Valle in February 2021.
The Seagulls won the race to sign the Ecuadorian 18 months ago for just £4.5m, beating off competition from Manchester United at the time, though the Red Devils are said to have maintained their interest.
Caicedo netted his first goal for Brighton against United last season, and impressed once more in the opening day victory at Old Trafford.
Sky Sports say that ‘United will have internal discussions’ about whether formalise their interest with a bid, though they add that South Coast club have ‘no intention of selling,’ with the club’s transfer policy being that ‘they will only sell at the right time for the right price.’
Caicedo – who has also been linked with Arsenal – previously admitted it would be a ‘dream’ to play for Manchester United and described them as his ‘favourite club’.
United have also been linked with Juventus’ Adrien Rabiot in recent weeks, though are yet to agree personal terms.
