Conor Gallagher could be allowed to leave Chelsea on loan this summer should the club prove successful in their pursuit of Frenkie de Jong.
Chelsea are interested in a deal to sign De Jong from Barcelona as the west Londoners look to continue their summer spending, with the Blues understood to have made an approach for the Netherlands international.
De Jong’s potential arrival could lead to an exit for Gallagher, who is keen to secure regular first-team football ahead of the World Cup.
Gallagher returned to Chelsea this summer after an impressive loan spell at Crystal Palace last season, in which he scored eight goals in 34 appearances to break into the England squad.
The 22-year-old had hoped to break into Thomas Tuchel’s plans this season, but has featured for just six minutes across Chelsea’s opening two Premier League fixtures of the campaign.
The Express are reporting that Crystal Palace are leading the chase to re-sign Gallagher and a return to Selhurst Park is believed to be the midfielder’s preference should he depart.
Gallagher was named as the Eagles’ Player of the Year last season and a return to the club could reportedly ‘be agreed by the weekend’. However, both West Ham and Newcastle are also interested.
