Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that central midfielder Casemiro is keen to ‘try a new challenge’ amid speculation linking him to Manchester United.
A central midfielder has been high on Manchester United’s shopping list this summer, though have faced a fruitless pursuit of Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong despite having a deal worth £73 million agreed with the Catalan club.
With just two weeks to go until the transfer deadline, it appears that the Red Devils have finally admitted defeat, and have identified Real Madrid’s Casemiro as an alternative, despite the two players seemingly having contrasting profiles.
Despite United’s lack of Champions League football, the Old Trafford outfit are still seemingly an attractive proposition for Casemiro, with speculation suggesting that Real Madrid would be willing to do a deal for around €60 million (£50m).
Now, speaking ahead of his side’s game against Celta Vigo, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has admitted that the Brazilian ‘wants to leave’ the reigning European champions.
“I have spoken with Casemiro. He wants to try a new challenge,” said Ancelotti.
“We respect Casemiro and his decision. He wants to leave. We didn’t try to convince him to stay. I listened to his desire. I respect him.
“Negotiations are ongoing for Casemiro. He won’t play tomorrow.”
