Harry Maguire ‘not for sale’ amid reported Chelsea interest

Manchester United have insisted that Harry Maguire is ‘not for sale’ amid reported interest from Chelsea.

Chelsea are understood to have made an enquiry into the availability of the United club captain, as the west Londoners look to sign a centre-back in the final stages of the window.

Thomas Tuchel’s side are pursuing a deal to sign Wesley Fofana from Leicester, but have reportedly discussed a potential deal for Maguire as the club consider alternatives.

The discussions have arisen after United expressed an interest in signing Christian Pulisic from Chelsea, though The Guardian are reporting that United’s stance is that Maguire is not for sale this summer.

The 29-year-old has endured a difficult 18 months with the Red Devils, having come in for fierce criticism following a number of poor performances.

The England international signed for United in an £80m world-record deal for a defender in 2019 and was made captain just six months after his arrival at Old Trafford. However, his form has since deteriorated and the centre-back has become a regular target for criticism.

Chelsea want to sign another centre-back before the deadline and saw two bids for Fofana turned down earlier in the window.
