Ratcliffe position ‘unchanged’ despite Glazers ignoring billionaire over Man Utd takeover

Sir Jim Ratcliffe remains ‘unchanged’ in his desire to takeover Manchester United despite receiving no response to his interest from the Glazer family.

Ratcliffe – one of Britain’s richest men with an estimated fortune of £9.8bn – has made clear his desire to purchase the club from the Glazer family and expressed a willingness to open negotiations with the American ownership over a potential deal.

The Glazers are facing renewed efforts to oust them from power with around 10,000 fans having protested ahead of United’s 2-1 win over Liverpool on Monday evening.

The current ownership have faced considerable opposition since their leveraged buy-out of the Red Devils in 2005, with the resulting rising debts and the continued dividends paid to the Glazers having contributed to a decade of decline at Old Trafford.

The Glazers are looking for investment to help fund the redevelopment of Old Trafford, after criticism for allowing the club’s infrastructure and facilities to fall behind Premier League rivals.

According to ESPN, however, Ratcliffe’s interest is in a full takeover of the club. So far, there has been no indication that the Glazers were willing to sell and Ratcliffe has received no response from the Americans since his declaration of interest.
