Cody Gakpo has admitted that Manchester United is a ‘serious option’ as the winger continues to be linked with an exit from PSV Eindhoven.
United are understood to be interested in the Netherlands international, who was named as Dutch Footballer of the Year after scoring 21 goals in all competitions for PSV last season.
United have agreed a deal worth €100m for Ajax winger Antony, but negotiations have taken place with PSV over Gakpo with the 23-year-old viewed as an alternative.
Gakpo has now opened up on his future and admits a move to the Premier League is a ‘serious option’ before the transfer window’s deadline on Thursday.
“Manchester United is one of the interested clubs, but there are other options,” he told ESPN. “United are a serious option.
“I can hear it all. I try to shut myself off from it, but it’s difficult.”
Gakpo discussed the Red Devils’ interest in Antony, but does not believes a deal for the Brazilian has an influence on his own future.
“Nice for him… but for me and my future, I think that has no influence.
“It’s like a puzzle so in the next days I will see which puzzle fits best — for me, it’d be certainly not bad to stay at PSV. We’ll see.”
