Manchester United have held talks with Barcelona over the signing of right-back Sergino Dest on a season-long loan deal.
Erik ten Hag worked with the United States international at Ajax, where the Dutch-born defender came through the academy ranks.
The 21-year-old has not featured in La Liga so far this season and Barcelona are open to his exit, with the Manchester Evening News reporting that the Red Devils are in discussions over a loan deal.
Dest broke into the Ajax side under Ten Hag’s management in 2019/20, before joining Barceloan the following season in a deal worth €21m. He has since made 72 appearances in all competitions for the Catalans but has not been included in the last two matchday squads.
Dest’s arrival could pave the way for Aaron Wan-Bissaka to leave the club before the deadline, with the 24-year-old having fallen out of favour. Wan-Bissaka has featured for just four minutes in the Premier League so far this season and has been subject of interest from West Ham and former club Crystal Palace.
