Manchester United’s owners have reportedly set an asking price of £3.75bn for the club, amid takeover interest.
The Glazer family have come under renewed pressure to sell their stake in the Premier League side, with fan protests again prevalent as unsettled supporters seek change at the top.
The Americans have been hugely unpopular since their heavily-leveraged takeover of United in 2005, a deal which saddled the Red Devils with huge debt and the Glazers have since used the club’s revenue streams to repay the interest on those loans.
Alongside a decade of decline on the pitch, additional dividends paid to the ownership and a lack of investment – in terms of ownership spending and in infrastructure – have seen continued calls from supporters for change.
According to the Mail, the Glazers have now set an asking price of £3.75bn for United, a figure which could attract interest from Dubai.
Sir Jim Ratcliffe – regarded as Britain’s wealthiest man – is also understood to be interested in taking ownership of the club.
Ratcliffe failed with a bid to buy Chelsea earlier this year, missing out to a consortium led by Todd Boehly despite an offer worth a reported £4.25bn for the west Londoners.
