Guardiola explains how MCD differs from El Clásico

Pep Guardiola has explained how the Manchester Derby differs from El Clásico clashes between Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Manchester City take on Manchester United in the Premier League this weekend with Guardiola preparing his team for the latest instalment of the Mancunian rivalry.

The Spaniard has taken charge of some of world football’s biggest fixtures during spells at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and City and has opened up on how the Manchester Derby differs from clashes in European leagues.

Guardiola admitted that the hype and spotlight placed on El Clásico clashes in Spanish football is impossible to compare to other rivalries.

“Barcelona Madrid was louder. Lots more media, more everything. The rest, Germany, here, we can work, it’s perfect,” Guardiola told his pre-match press conference.

Guardiola was asked whether derby encounters are different for him and admits there is an extra importance placed on clashes with City’s cross-town rivals.

“Yeah it’s different, important, they are a big rival in the city – we have to try to figure out what they are going to do but you don’t have to have extra emotions, everyone knows what it is.”
