Arsenal set to hand Martinelli lucrative long-term deal

Arsenal are set to hand Gabriel Martinelli a new long-term contract that would double his current wages at the Emirates.

Martinelli has been in negotiations with the Gunners over a lucrative new deal as the north Londoners look to secure his long-term future. The Brazilian has been in outstanding form during a strong start to the season for Mikel Arteta’s side, having registered four goals and two assists in nine Premier League appearances.

The 21-year-old starred as Arsenal regained their place at the top of the division on Sunday, with a goal and assist in the 3-2 win over Liverpool at the Emirates.

Arsenal are now keen to reward Martinelli with a new deal and the Times are reporting that the proposal would double the forward’s wages to around £100,000-a-week. Bukayo Saka and William Saliba are also in talks over new contracts, as the club look to tie down the core of their exciting young side.

Speaking after the win over Liverpool, Martinelli – who has made 95 appearances since signing from Brazilian side Ituano FC in 2019 – reiterated his desire to sign a new deal.

“Of course, I want to stay,” Martinelli said. “We are talking. Let’s see what is going to happen. But I want to stay, of course.”
