Arsenal are set to reward Granit Xhaka with a new contract following the midfielder’s renaissance at the Emirates.
Xhaka has been a crucial component of Mikel Arteta’s fast-improving side, with the Switzerland international having excelled in a more advanced role this season.
Arsenal are top of the Premier League after eight wins from nine games this season and Xhaka has emerged as a leader of the Gunners’ inexperienced side.
The 30-year-old has embarked on a remarkable redemption tale in north London, having been stripped of the club captaincy under former manager Unai Emery following a clash with the club’s fans. He came close to leaving Arsenal, before talks with Arteta persuaded him to remain and he has since gone from strength to strength in the side.
Xhaka’s current deal has just over 18 months to run and Football Insider are reporting that the Gunners are keen to secure his future with a new deal. He has made nine league appearances this season, in which he has scored twice and provided three assists.
Arsenal are also in negotiations with Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and William Saliba over new long-term deals.
