Guardiola has ‘no doubts’ Erling Haaland has ‘revolutionised’ the striker’s role

Pep Guardiola believes Erling Haaland has revolutionised the role of a centre-forward following his impact at Manchester City.

Haaland was the major addition of the summer transfer window at City after completing a move from Borussia Dortmund.

There was much intrigue about how the Norwegian would settle given City’s tendency to operate without a recognised centre-forward in recent seasons, but the 22-year-old has starred with a record-breaking run of goals.

Haaland has scored 20 goals in just 13 appearances for City this season and will be hoping to score for an eighth consecutive Premier League game at Liverpool this weekend. Ahead of the clash, Guardiola was asked whether the forward has revolutionised the striker role.

“With his movement, pace. No doubts about that,” Guardiola told his pre-match press conference.

Haaland was rested during the goalless draw in Copenhagen with Guardiola having cited fatigue as the reason for his omission. The Spaniard has delivered an update on his fitness and says the forward is ‘all good’ ahead of the trip to Anfield.

“All good – we cannot underestimate how many games we’ve played already, and Erling didn’t play this many games last season.”
