Kane not ‘scared’ of missing World Cup with England skipper ‘focused on Tottenham’

Antonio Conte insists Harry Kane is not scared of missing the World Cup with the England captain focused on Tottenham.

The domestic season will pause for the World Cup in Qatar next month as the finals takes place mid-season in an unprecedented change to the calendar.

The schedule of the tournament has led to congestion for club sides in the build-up to the World Cup, with the hectic fixture list having increased the chances of injuries.

Several big names have already been ruled out of the World Cup, with Liverpool’s Diogo Jota and Chelsea’s Reece James among those expected to miss the finals after picking up injuries in recent weeks.

Kane – who has had a history of ankle issues – has ten goals in 14 appearances this season and has scored in each of his last five Premier League games. Speaking ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Manchester United, Conte insists the 29-year-old wants to feature in every game despite the threat of missing the World Cup.

“I can tell you that Harry wants to play every game,” Conte told the media at his pre-match press conference.

“A player who wants to play every game is not scared of injury or about missing the World Cup.”

“Harry, like the other players, is really focused on Tottenham,” added Conte.
