Gabriel Jesus unconcerned by burnout and his recent goal drought

Gabriel Jesus insists he is unconcerned by potential burnout and his recent lack of goals for Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta made headlines last week when he discussed his expectations for the squad, insisting that the ‘top players’ must be able to handle the demands of a relentless fixture list.

“Look at the top players in the world, they play 70 matches, every three days and make the difference and win the game,” Arteta said. “If you want to be at the top you have to be able to do that.”

The current season is facing unprecedented congestion, with the mid-season scheduling of a winter World Cup having placed even greater pressure on an already packed schedule.

Jesus insists he is unconcerned by potential burnout however, and says he is doing all he can to recover between games and ensure he is best prepared for a marathon season.

“Of course not,” he said ahead of Arsenal’s clash with PSV Eindhoven on Thursday.

“I’m doing good recovery after the games: eating better, sleeping better, enjoying life in the Arsenal T-shirt a lot. So I’m ready to play 50, 60, 70 games per season.”

Jesus began the season in brilliant form following his summer move from Manchester City, but has seen his output slow in recent fixtures. The Brazilian is without a goal in five fixtures across all competitions, but is confident he will soon end his recent drought.

“That’s happened before and I’m pretty sure in the future it’s going to happen again,” he said. “I don’t want it to be like this, of course. I want to improve, I want to work and then next game, I try again. And I’m 100% sure I will score.”
