Barcelona are monitoring Gabriel Martinelli’s contract situation at Arsenal ahead of a potential summer move.
Martinelli has starred during a brilliant start to the season at Arsenal, with the Gunners currently five points clear at the top of the Premier League. The 21-year-old has become an integral figure for Mikel Arteta’s side and has five league goals in 14 appearances this season.
Arsenal are keen to reward his development with a new contract, but Sport are reporting that Barcelona are tracking his progress ahead of a potential summer move.
Should an agreement not be reached before the summer, Martinelli will have just 12 months remaining on his deal at the Emirates.
His performances this season have seen Martinelli earn inclusion in Brazil’s squad for the World Cup and he is currently with the Selecao in Qatar.
He discussed his future last month and reiterated his desire to sign a new deal in north London. Speaking at a press conference ahead of Arsenal’s Europa League clash with FC Zurich, Martinelli suggested an agreement on extended terms was close.
“I’m very happy at Arsenal. I said it many times,” Martinelli said.
“This is my club. I love to be here, I love the city, the club, everything about Arsenal. I want to stay. I’m very happy. I just need to get a pen.”
