Manchester United co-owner Avram Glazer has held talks with potential investors from the Middle East.
United were placed up for sale with the Glazer family who announced their intention to bring in investment last month, news which was greeted with delight from the club’s fans who have continually protested against the controversial ownership.
The official statement from the club said they were ‘exploring strategic alternatives’ to bring in additional investment to the Old Trafford outfit, up to and including a full sale.
Since that announcement, a whole host of potential buyers have been reported to be interested, with a report earlier this week saying that The Raine Group – the investment banking firm that have been put in charge of the process – are seeking a price tag for a full sale between £6-7 billion.
United co-owner Avram Glazer was spotted in Qatar following France’s victory over Morocco in the World Cup semi-finals, where he told The Athletic: “It’s not necessarily a sale, it’s a process and we’re going forward with the process, so we’ll see what happens.
“That’s the update, it’s the process and the process is proceeding.”
Despite saying that he was there to simply ‘enjoy the World Cup”, the same outlet now reveals that the 62-year-old has held talks with potential investors from Qatar and Saudi Arabia during his trip, though add that the ‘nature of the talks between Glazer and the different groups he has met in Doha is not clear’.
However, the talks do come just weeks after Saudi Arabian sports minister, Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, said he hoped for Saudi investment in either United or Liverpool, with both sides currently up for sale.
Earlier this week, meanwhile, Erik ten Hag admitted that the proposed new investment in the club will be a ‘good thing’.
“My information is that it will only be good things because there will be more investment possible which is good,” he said.
“Richard Arnold told me it was happening. We spoke about the culture we want, we spoke about objectives, goals and the culture and he confirmed it won’t change. It will be even better because more money will become available for this project.
Aside from new owners, United are also on the lookout for a new shirt sponsor after coming to an agreement with TeamViewer about terminating their £235million deal.
