Ten Hag brings in psychologist to give Man Utd extra ‘boost’

Erik ten Hag has brought in a performance psychologist at Manchester United in an attempt to give his squad an extra ‘boost’.

United will resume their domestic campaign with a Carabao Cup tie against Burnley on Wednesday night, before facing Nottingham Forest in the Premier League on December 27.

Ahead of the season’s restart, Ten Hag has been preparing his squad and the Times are reporting that the Dutchman has enlisted the help of a psychologist to give his side an edge.

Rainier Koers of the Talent Academy has been brought in to work with the team and was present during the club’s recent training camp in Spain.

Ten Hag has also held discussions with staff from Tour de France winners Team Jumbo-Visma as he looks to gain information and advice from other elite sports. The discussions centered around nutrition and sleep cycles as the United manager looks to improve the small details and his team’s performance.

The move is similar to how former United interim boss, Ralf Rangnick, brought sports psychologist Sascha Lense into his team during his time in charge at Old Trafford,

The introduction of a performance psychologist comes after Ten Hag’s comments on Jadon Sancho, who he claimed will return to the squad when he is physically and mentally ready.

Sancho has struggled for consistency since his arrival at Old Trafford from Borussia Dortmund and missed the final fixtures before the World Cup break.

He was not included during United’s training camp in Spain with Ten Hag having placed the winger on an individual training programme ahead of the season’s restart.
