Antonio Conte has reiterated his happiness at Tottenham despite no agreement on a new contract at the club.
Conte’s current deal expires at the end of the season and there has so far been no announcement on an extension, with the topic regularly put to the Italian in recent months.
Conte has again addressed the issue ahead of Spurs’ clash with Brentford on Boxing Day and said his focus was on Monday’s clash. He did, however, reiterate his happiness in north London and said both he and the club were working to find the ‘best solution’.
“I think I would like also in the future to not speak about this matter in the press conference because I think it is much more important the game we are going to play, in this case Brentford,” Conte told his pre-match press conference.
“But what I can tell you is I am really happy in the club, to work here and I have a really good relationship with the club. We talk every day with the club and try to find in every situation the best solution. But I think we have six months to stay together, to enjoy the situation and then we find, I repeat, the best solution. But I am really happy here. This is very, very important for me.”
Spurs are fourth in the Premier League table, ahead of a clash with a Brentford side who sprang a surprise in beating Manchester City before the break. Conte is anticipating a difficult test against the Bees and has warned his side about Brentford’s set-piece threat.
“For us to play against Brentford last season was really difficult as talking about a team strong physically and good at set pieces. We have to pay great attention. It’s a strange situation to play so quickly after only one week after World Cup I think.”
Spurs will be without Cristian Romero for the clash as the defender celebrates his role in Argentina’s World Cup success. Ivan Perisic and Hugo Lloris have returned despite involvement in the latter stages of the tournament, though the latter will be on the bench against Brentford with Fraser Forster set to start in goal. Conte confirmed that Harry Kane is available for selection.
“Ivan came back today and had training session with us. He’s available for game against Brentford. Lloris came back to stay with us and want him to also stay on bench and stay with us for game against Brentford.
“As you know very well after World Cup give rest to players. Cuti (Romero) he will be available for next game against Aston Villa. I am not worried about him (Kane). I saw him very well in these last two days with us.”
