Arsenal ‘stepping up’ Joao Felix pursuit

Arsenal are interested in a deal to sign Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid and are stepping up their efforts to sign the forward this month.

Mikel Arteta wants to add options to his forward line and the Gunners are chasing deals for both Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk and Felix.

Arsenal have seen two offers turned down for Mudryk and the Telegraph are reporting that the north Londoners are now increasing their efforts to sign Felix on loan.

The 23-year-old is available this month after falling out of favour at Atletico Madrid, having made just six league starts under Diego Simeone this season. He has largely failed to live up to expectations since his £113m club-record move to the club in 2019.

The Portugal international is still regarded as a promising talent and impressed with his performances during the World Cup in Qatar. Comfortable in a number of role across the frontline, he could prove a perfect short-term solution as Arsenal look to cover the absence of the injured Gabriel Jesus.

However, the demands of Atletico will dictate whether a deal can be secured with reports having suggested the Spanish side are seeking a loan fee in the region of €12m-€13m for a six-month arrangement.

Felix became the fifth most expensive player in history when signed for Atletico from Benfica and he has since scored 34 goals in 130 appearances across all competitions.

Manchester United and Chelsea have both also been linked with Felix, with reports in Spain suggesting the Red Devils have made a loan offer of around €4 million.
