Graham Potter admits Chelsea’s recent performances ‘haven’t been good enough’ but insists he is ‘looking forward’ to Thursday’s west London derby at Fulham.
Chelsea make the short trip to face Fulham at Craven Cottage tomorrow evening, as the Blues look to address a poor run of form. Potter’s side have won just one of their last eight games in all competitions and suffered a humbling 4-0 defeat at Manchester City in the FA Cup on Sunday.
The club’s downturn in results has left Chelsea tenth in the Premier League table and Potter admits the pressure is on him to turn their fortunes around.
He concedes that recent performances have been below the standard required, but believes a London derby at Fulham is the perfect chance to bounce back.
The Cottagers will begin the clash three places above Chelsea after a strong return to the Premier League under Marco Silva this season.
“There’s always pressure, and the higher you go, especially at a club like Chelsea with such history and tradition, and the demands of it, then of course there is noise and criticism,” Potter told his pre-match press conference.
“It’s everything you’d expect but you’ve just got to stay strong and keep trying to improve.
“It’s a difficult job. Look at my colleagues in similar positions, the likes of Pep and Jurgen Klopp got criticism early in their careers.
“Football is emotional, you feel all the pain and the discomfort and sometimes it’s hard to understand why, and it’s easier to blame somebody.
“It’s about putting it into perspective and remembering how you got here. I do acknowledge that our results haven’t been good enough, but we’ve got to keep moving forward.
“We know it’s going to be a tough game tomorrow but it’s a London derby, something we’re really looking forward to.”
