Manchester United and Chelsea have reportedly entered the race to sign Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.
Raya is attracting interest from the Premier League’s top clubs and is expected to leave Brentford at the end of the season, having entered the final 18 months of his deal with Thomas Frank’s side.
Tottenham are considering an approach for the Spain international as the club seek a long-term replacement for Hugo Lloris in north London, but the Telegraph are reporting that Spurs will face competition from Manchester United and Chelsea.
Manchester United remain in talks with David de Gea over a new contract at Old Trafford, but are exploring potential goalkeeping options ahead of the summer transfer window.
Despite the expectation that De Gea will sign a new deal with the club on reduced terms, Raya has emerged as an attractive option for the Red Devils having forged a reputation as one of the best distributers in the Premier League.
De Gea’s distribution has often been criticised and Raya’s ball-playing ability has seen him overtake the 32-year-old in the pecking order for the Spanish national side.
Chelsea are also considering their options in goal with Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga having failed to convince this season. Raya is valued at between £15m and £20m and will earn Brentford a significant profit on their £3m investment from Blackburn Rovers in 2019.
The Bees signed Thomas Strakosha on a free transfer from Lazio last summer and the 27-year-old Albania international could be handed a chance as number one should Raya depart.
